Go to the cinema, a house party, your friends` house, a concert, or even your neigbourhood suppermarket and if you look hard enough, you are likely to see someone lighting a cigarette. Smokers are everywhere from our homes and sometime ask ourselves if smoking is really that bad.

Sceptics say that since it is so bad why many people do it after there people who smoke their whole lives and it never seems to do them any harm, so what is all the noise about?

Smoking cause lungs cancer, hypertension, infertility, heart attacks and the like, studies also claim it reduces life expectancy by 15-25 years. Some people ignore them and see them as long term effects they feel they are living for the moment and enjoying their youth for as long as it lasts.

The main argument against smoking is that substances abuse is a crime. People who use hard drugs like marijuana get arrested most times, smoking also has a lot of negative characteristics that shall be highlighted below.
Smoking is offensive: people are offended by smoking. No matter how well dressed you look put a cigarette between two fingers and people stop taking you seriously. Most restaurant and offices, have "no smoking" signs and if you must smoke you have to go outside or hide in corner somewhere like some sort of criminal acts.

Smoking give people wrong impression: Some of you would have noticed that a lot of ladies ( including yours truly ) won`t come withing three feet of a guy who smoke. And if you are a lady and you smoke, guys start having that sort of impression about you.

Smoking is expensive: Let`s be realistic, if it is expensive and so many people find it offensive, Why Do It?   You are basically spending good money to make a bad impression and killing yourself in the process.

Smoking make you smell bad: Cigarette leave a a smoker with a condition called halitosis, or persistent bad breath. Not only that , the smell of stale smoke tends to linger not just on your clothing, but on your hair, furniture, and in the car. The longer it lingers, the more unpleasant it becomes.

Smokers reduces athletic performance: You will never see a footballer endorsing cigarettes, and this is why: people who smoke usually can`t compete with non smokers peers because of the physical effects of smoking - like rapid heartbeat, decreased circulation, and shortness of breath.

A cigarette contain about 4000 chemicals, many of which are poisonous. Some of them are:
  • Nicotine: A deadly poison
  • Arsenic: A component of rocket fuel
  • Ammonomia: Found in floor clearer and urine
  • Formaldehyde: Used in mortuaries to preserve body tissue
  •   Cadmium: Use in batteries
  • Hydrogen Cyanide: The poison used in gas chamber
Every time you smoke a cigarette, small amounts of these chemicals get into your lungs. They travel to all the parts of your body and give you that lovely heady feeling you get from smoking. That is for sure isn`t it?
